The Wilson Steam 105S is part of an interesting launch of Wilson racquets using a super open string pattern with 16 mains, but only 15 crosses. While the number of main strings are pretty much standard, the number of cross strings are very low at 15. Rarely do you see a racquet below 18 crosses. This increases the gap between the strings and allow the main string to move further during ball impact only to return to the normal position after the hit. Players can get an astounding amount of spin from this string pattern and also more pace. Wilson Steam 105S has a large 105 square inch racquet head, so the open string pattern is even more pronounced there. Combined with a racquet weight of only 11 ounces, the access to power is incredible and the maneuverability is excellent.
The racquet is so light and powerful that it is best suited for beginners and intermediate players with medium swings and racquet speed. The BLX technology can be found within this frame, where gold fibers has been developed from volcanic rock to minimize the vibrations. Amplifeel is a technology used in the handle, making the grip incredibly comfortable.
